My jaw dropped when I read this tidbit. The BoyGenius leaked the first info we had on the upcoming BlackBerry Messenger that is coming with OS 5.0. That included GPS proximity information, avatars, group conversations, and more. Now Michael comes back with even more goodies to make my mouth water.
- SMS support — Threaded SMS is finally coming!
- PIN barcode scanning — Too lazy to add your friend to Messenger by entering in their PIN? Just have them click the Barcode option on their devices and, you guessed it, a barcode will show up letting the other party scan it with their BlackBerry camera and immediately add that contact to your list.
- Backup/Restore Messenger list to microSD card — FINALLY!!!
I just cannot believe that RIM is finally starting to innovate again. The Avatar sync with contacts really starts turning BBM into a mini social network for BlackBerry users. The ability to share your location is great. Add that to proximity detection that barely anybody does now and you have a hot product. All they need is a desktop component…

All I care to see are more emoticons or, preferably, the ability to add custom emoticons.
As for delikid’s comment; if there is a 5.0 for the Curve then being on Sprint shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve had no problems upgrading my VZW Curve OS using Telus releases.

I don’t see threaded SMS in OS 5.0.100? Is it not yet included?
