Hmmm...I thought I had read that only BES email is encrypted between RIM and device and BIS email is fully in the clear?

Then again, most people using POP or IMAP email at home are in the clear too. Some webmail even only https their login page and after that its all http!

I agree as well but the problem with a standard encryption mode. The powers that be would then just standardly decrypt and things would be the same as they are now. The only way to stay secure is person to person contact and in this day in age that is still questionable. To the best of my knowledge SMS is the most secure and I have read that CDMA is the most secure and the hardest to invade.

I completely agree with this post. With everyday users getting smartphones, I do find myself emailing friends more now than using SMS or phone. It would really good to know that my communications were encrypted. Definitely in need of a free standard for email encryption available to everyone.
