BlackBerry Tour to Sport Dual Core Processor?

Matt sent me some promotional material from TELUS that seems to have gotten on the web and slipped in a little gem. He sent me an extra page that does not seem to have made it around that shows the BlackBerry Tour having a dual core Qualcomm MSM7600 processor (App – 528MHz, Modem – 256MHz). Personally I am not sure if current BlackBerrys have dual core processors but last time I checked they did not. The last device that I know of that had a dual core was the iDen 7250 which had a processor for the modem and another for the OS. It made the device super fast back in the day and I hope it does the same for the Tour. Could be this is just a fluke but I hope not!

So what do you think? Know anything about the Qualcomm MSM7600?

  1. Very weird. The storm supposedly uses the same processor but it is clocked at 624Mhz not 528Mhz like the telus doc. Could be they are wrong? Or maybe multiple clock speeds are available. I checked the documentation and teardown and saw no mention of it being dual core before. Could be I glossed over it…

  2. They all do that. In fact, the Bold has 3. If you have escreen access, go to OS, Battery, Core Frequency, and you’ll see it has a 624 MHz Apps core, 208 MHz Radio Core, and a 312 MHz DSP core.

  3. Cool – a dual core processor. Y’know, so that they can process the XML and Java based inputs TWICE AS FAST!

How about they just optimize the OS? BBOS is the worst device-specific operating system ever written, hands-down.
