RIM just let me know that Facebook 1.6 that we told you about before is going to be officially released today at 9PM EST. That is in less than 4 hours! Nothing new in here that we did not tell you about before but it looks like they fixed the bugs they had. Now if only they would add Facebook chat and support for OS 5.0…
Here’s a highlight of new features:
- Status updates and highlights on the home page – you can now view your friends’ most recent status updates right on the home page. Highlights like photo uploads and wall posts are just a click away and you can comment on a photo, poke a friend, etc. right from the home page.
- Wall access from within Facebook for BlackBerry – with one click on your friend’s profile picture from the home page, you can access their wall without having to go to the mobile site.
- Photo viewing in a simple, easy-to-use slideshow format – check out your friends’ latest photo albums with improved photo viewing, and view albums in a simple and easy-to-use slideshow format. Just scroll back and forth through the thumbnails along the bottom to display the larger picture in the center of the screen.
- Facebook for BlackBerry 1.6 will also support three new languages:
- Thai
- Indonesian
- European Portuguese
You should be able to pick it up at 9PM at www.blackberry.com/facebook. Let me know when it is live!

Wow this is such exciting news it needed 3 exclamation points.
Rim shouldnt be wasting its time on this BS. They have way too many other issues to worry about.

Yeah its nothing crazy but I am looking forward to the new albums feature.
The reason for the time mixup is actually because RIM sent out the press release with the wrong time. They meant to write 6PM PST and accidentally wrote 6PM EST. They clarified it after.
The exclamation points were in surprise to RIM finally announcing it officially and getting it out the door.

Its actually a very nice improvement even thought its just a jump from 1.5 to 1.6.0.17…. Very nice to be able to go thru your notifications from the phone and check out the ‘highlights’…. Good job, RIM! You’ve got a much better app on your devices now…

Same here. I’m running .250, and the app is nowhere to be found. It seemed to install just fine.

Omg Stop bitching about 5.0 RIM has no phones out yet that have it. So downgrade your leak os and it will work. Why would you have 5.0 os when a lot of 3rd apps don’t work with it yet….Now the new facebook is awesome love scrolling to see albums and pictures.WTG RIM 2 thumbs up.

Its definitely easier to navigate and a better layout. Even though its not a whole lot of features, the point is for a app to be simple yet allows us to manage our facebook. Good job.

I updated my Sprint 8830 last night, and when I go to Options, the Calendar and Contact sync is grayed out. When I go to my friends list, I can no longer Connect to BlackBerry Contact. A buddy of mine just did the update on his Verizon Storm, and it works fine. What model do you have, jay leenen?

Supposedly if you are on BES your administrator needs to update their BES policy. If your stuff is greyed out that is most likely the prob.

Interesting…I am on BPS, and I AM the admin :-p. Guess I need to do some digging and find what needs changed…

Found it. http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB18427 I guess this policy is in BES 5.0, but previous versions need to import the policy before BES users get contact/calendar sync back. Since I’m on a one man BPS that I have full reign over, this wasn’t a big deal for me, but if you are on a BES, I suggest talking to your BES admin(s) before doing this upgrade…

I have The Storm 9500.
Apparently it is because i’m on BES. But my administrator has let me know that he will not change this. He has to enable a function: synchronization with social networking.
So i’m stuck and i hope to find a solution. Otherwise i’m going back to 1.5.

FB 1.6 works fine on my 8110. Also made a massive improvement on available memory.

My 8820 apparently ‘does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support Facebook’, even though the 1.5 version works fine.
