Vision – A Slick 3rd Party YouTube Client for OS 4.3+

Developer: Metova Cost: Free

Miguel let me know about this slick looking YouTube application from Metova. This is the same company with a client list including Slacker, DubMeNow, and the upcoming Xobni app. I installed the app myself and it works like a charm. Its exactly what Google should have developed themselves for all devices. It kind of reminds me of the Slacker application interface.

The only confusing part is if this is a free application or not. I did not run into a license request while using it but the screenshots on their website hint towards some limitations unless you buy a license. I cannot even see where to buy it so they are probably still working on that.

You can read more at metova.com/display/DOCVISIONYT/Home/ or download the application for yourself OTA at vision.metova.com/download and let me know what you think.

I guess the first question that must be asked is: Does it actually stream the “decent” quality version of the video or the same garbage you get when you view through your BB browser?

*sigh* BlackBerry will not..in no way stream the decent quality version of videos this is due to the fact that the videos encoded are in POORLY encoded .3gp versions. 3GP can look great, but youtube/google refuses to up the encoding standards.

For those seeking why “iPhone youtube looks better” it’s because the iPhone redirects you to the H264 encoded versions of the files.

So, that said don’t ever expect your BB files to improve unless RIM and google adjust which format the videos are directed to via the browser detection and BB fully all around supports H264 codecs.

Also to note though, this app DOES allow you to change to the mp4 version that is streamed by Youtube, in the options so as long as Youtube didn’t over compress those to crap as well.

i have a bold> does this use wifi or through the 3g signal?
If it does not use wifi i stick with Xenozu!!

    • Xenozu needs a major facelift its just such a hassel going around the app. its good for what it does but i dont like the UI. Vision however has a very nice UI and ill keep using it as long as its kept free

  5. I tested it on my Storm and it works like a charm.
