Vlingo v3.0 Released: Adds $18 Price Tag Along With New Features
Vlingo just announced their new version 3.0 today. Since it started off to a bumpy start the app has really started to shape up! Voice recognition is much better and it is getting more useful every day. Vlingo 3.0 adds the ability to speak action requests like Send and works with wired and Bluetooth headsets. They also enhanced their text-readback feature which reads back to you what you have just dictated to confirm its accuracy.
One of the big changes with this version is that these additional voice capabilities, including the ability to send and reply to text messages and emails to anyone now costs a one-time charge of $17.99. Existing users of Vlingo 2.0 can continue to use Vlingo 2.0 at no additional charge. It looks like if you upgrade you are stuck with the new $17.99 charge. No word on if you can transfer that payment from one device to another. On the bright side $17.99 is much less than competitors are charging for such a solution.
The new version also supports the Storm, Bold, 8900 Curve, & Pearl Flip. They have also optimized the Storm version for touch controls. I like how you can assign a side button to Vlingo and then do the following with your voice:
Send and reply to text messages with users who also have Vlingo- Web search
- Dial the phone
- Send a “note to self”
- Facebook & Twitter status updates
- Tell A Friend
- Optional read-back of the full text or email message that was spoken
- Speak action requests such as “send” or “search
- Launch native and third-party applications
U.S., Canadian and UK users can get Vlingo on BlackBerry App World or go to www.vlingo.com/v2 to download directly from your PC.
