The PrimeTime2Go service from QuickPlay we told you about during CTIA earlier this year has finally launched! This lets you watch top TV shows on your BlackBerry for a $7.99/month subscription fee via PayPal. All you need is a Bold or a 8900 Curve with a MicroSD card with a recommended size of at least 512MB. Sadly the shows are downloaded VIA Wi-Fi only but you can watch them anytime until the vague “predetermined viewing period” expires.
The cool feature I saw was the ability for you to select a specific show and have new episodes automatically downloaded after the show airs. It also lets you pause and resume the video where you started off and hopefully this will survive a reboot.
Shows included are:
- ABC: “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” and “Desperate Housewives”
- CBS: “CSI,” “NCIS,” “Harper’s Island” and “The Young and the Restless”
- NBC: “The Office” and “Heroes”
- ABC Family: “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “Greek”
- ABC News: “World News with Charles Gibson,” “20/20,” and “Nightline”
- Bravo: “Top Chef”
- Discovery Channel: “Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment”
- Disney Channel: “Hannah Montana,” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”
- Disney XD: “Aaron Stone,” “Phineas and Ferb,” and “Kid vs. Kat”
- ESPN: “PTI,” “Around the Horn,” and “Game Up”
- SCI FI: “Ghost Hunters International”
- The CW: “90120” and “America’s Next Top Model”
- TLC: “Jon & Kate Plus 8”
- USA: “Monk”
Additional shows from Discovery Channel and Animal Planet will be available shortly. These include:
- Discovery Channel: “Shark Week”
- Animal Planet: “Whale Wars”
Sadly PrimeTime2Go is another victim of the App World only trend. You can only download it using the App World by searching for PrimeTime2Go. You can find out more at www.quickplay.com.

does it make any sense that the home page for quickplay has a storm right in the middle of the page, but they do not support the storm? largest screen blackberry, but no tv, major fail!

Don’t worry about it. Its not that great. They don’t even have half of the shows up yet! I’m not happy. They should have had this ready before going live!

This app fails for a lot of reasons in it’s current state…
$8 a month subscription
Can’t preview anything without a subscription
Requires wifi
Very limited content selection currently (for example, say you lookup NBC, there’s about 3 shows. Say you pick the Office, there’s ONE episode…)
Channels display even if they currently have 0 content
You can’t subscribe from the app…

Totally agree with all of you but I had to mention it with all the buildup RIM has been doing…
Personally I just think somebody needs to find a way to get Hulu on my BlackBerry.

90% sure Skyfire will solve this (which makes this solution even more absurd). I would even opt for a slingbox or PC server over this solution.

The more I think about it and read about this, I’m with the folks saying this is fail due to WiFi requirement. Um, HELLO Quickplay, you DO realize that the VAST majority of BlackBerry smartphones out there DO NOT have WiFi? And half the country (okay, about 120 million or so, so a third) uses cellular providers who historically do not offer WiFi on their devices (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, USCellular, etc.)! At a minimum you need to make your app work like Slacker radio station caching that can at least be done whenever you connect to your PC.

Still cannot find the app in bb app world. Will somebody please tell me how I can find it cuz the searching isn’t working. I use wi-fi at home and work all the time so it won’t be a problem for me. Just want to try it out but I have to be able to download the app first. Trying to find it in the app world once again Thanks.

@Mike:
Perhaps App World is filtering it out for OS 5.0?

This is an interesting read, also $7 a month is nothing. I pay almost the same for my morning cup of coffee. I also had good success watching some of the online TV channels on http://www.myeasytv.com
