Cleric Software let me know about their new application appropriately named Tip Calculator. The app simply helps you calculate tips which is quite useful. What really makes it stand out is that it helps you split the tip between up to 20 people along with the ability to change the rounding option. It even has a suggested gratuity screen that helps you find a recommended tip amount based on the recipient. I don’t see this being very useful myself since I rarely do anything that requires a large tip but the ability to split the bill sounds handy. At $2.99 until May 31st it is not a large investment but sadly there is no free trial.
NOTE: Cleric Software was kind enough to provide us with 30 free copies of Tip Calculator to the first readers who use the coupon code BERRYREVIEWFREETIPS in the store at this link. Hurry up!
From the description:
This is the tip calculator that you have been waiting for. Easy to use, very powerful, and it looks great! Use this handy utility everyday to calculate tips quickly and easily. You can use Tip Calculator to split a bill amongst multiple parties. Tip Calculator also provides a handy ‘Suggested Gratuity’ page when you are unsure of the proper amount to tip.
Simply enter the amount you want the tip to be based upon (you choose whether or not to have the tip calculation include tax), select the number of people to split the bill, and tip percentage. This application’s beautiful graphics are worthy of your BlackBerry.
Features:
- Split a tip between 1 and 20 parties.
- Easily pick a tip amount.
- Multiple rounding options to make splitting a tip easier.
- Suggested Gratuity screen will help you determine proper tip amounts for a large number of occupations ranging from tattoo artists to taxi drivers.
- Automatically stores last settings.
- Looks great!

@automan69: Here is a sweet way to trade your 8320 in for an 8900: http://www.cellphonesignal.com/trade-program-for-t-mobile-htc-and-blackberry/
I just upped my 8320 to an 8900 and as much as I loved my 8320, I know it was the right thing.

Uhm.. I think it might take 2 minutes to write a spreadsheet to do this for you. If not use calc to multiply total by 1.17 and device by number people. Seriously, who needs another app when it is already there?

In that case who needs a fart app when they can just…
Sorry just kidding but I had to say it.

Okay, I concede the point about the fart app but at least it’s a frivolous app that’s funny. It also guarantees a purely auditory experience. Whereas the built-in app will usually involve an olfactory assault as well. That’s a bit more invasive and maybe not so funny.

Check out TipCalcBB. Search for it on sourceforge.net. I wrote it for fun. It isn’t as pretty but it is completely free and does the same thing.
