HOT!!! Facebook Officially Available NOW!

facebook1dot5[1] UPDATE: Official word is that OS 4.2+  is required along with a trackball or touchscreen device. Sorry 8700 users.

Okay this is a nice bump for all Facebook fans. Brian just let me know that RIM has released version of their free Facebook application. This is newer than the 1.5.0 version that was leaked online before. I don’t really have a way to check which devices it is available for but I can confirm it is available for the Bold in the App World or the link below:
or directly at

Check it out and report back if it works for your device! Let me know if you notice anything new if you have already been using it.

New features include

  • Receive instant notifications on your BlackBerry smartphones home screen.
  • Send/receive message or wall posts, pokes and friend requests.
  • Update your status, view and comment on your friends’ status.
  • Share photos from your BlackBerry smartphone with tags/comments and post to Facebook with just one click.
  • Connect your Facebook friends with your BlackBerry Address Book – including profile picture integration which brings a whole new meaning to caller ID.
  • Stay on top of your life with birthday reminders and event integration into your BlackBerry Calendar.

  4. Woot! Downloading now.

  5. works fine on both my 8700 and my 9000…

  6. I just downloaded it. I can’t see any improvements! It still sucks, and sends me to the browser to do anything. Why can’t they make a Facebook app like the iPhone’s? I like my 8900 better than my iPhone, but the facebook app in the iPhone is 10 times better.

  7. Can anyone confirm if this works with 5.0??

  8. I too would love to know if this works with OS 5.0.x

  9. Wow I like the new change. Like when you click on friends or Update, it scrolls to right and the window opens up.

  10. No 5.0 love. Blah

  11. You shouldn’t be installing this over a LEAKED version, you will see your memory drop as it will duplicate data bases on your device.

  12. Its working on my 8700r on rogers, os

  13. Yawn. Adds some stuff but nothing special. Just as well. I waste too much time on FB

  14. i wonder if there’s any diff with the leaked oen

what What WHAT?!?!?!?! Downloading now 🙂

  16. Work fine on my 8330

  17. Sign on screen is different. And you have options to sync your contacts, calendar, and something else. That’s it.

  18. Does anyone know if there is an option to re-sync contacts/calendar/etc?

Also, what about new friends? It doesn’t seem to sync those.

Do I have to reinstall to do this?

  19. I downloaded this yesterday on my 8330 and it’s working fine. However, I use a theme which lists the next 5 calendar entries on the home screen…and now it’s not. Has anyone else had this problem?

  20. this new facebook is a disaster. my girlfriend’s phone is very slow, all her 800 friends’ birthdays were loaded into her phone (slowing her phone’s memory!), replaced all contacts’ images with their facebook photos.
she deleted facebook, and now all her calendar events have duplicates under the “facebook” calendar.
