Amazon launches BlackBerry App

Capture16_0_5 Amazon, one of my favorite places for shopping, just released their own application for the BlackBerry smartphone. I was wondering the other day when they were going to release a mobile app since their mobile version of the site is not that great.

What I really like about this application is that it has a scrolling menu at the top that lets you scroll through all their menus, which makes it really easy for browsing.

It lets you sign in to your account if you already have one,  and it shows you items that you recently searched for. One of the things that really impressed me with this application is how fast it processes your searches and how easy it is to browse through it, at least on my 8900.

at almost 600KB, I’ll have to say “No Thanks” as much as I also love Amazon. At that size I’d expect to be able to watch movies from their online rental store.

    • Whenever I see people whining about the size of an app that is a paltry 600kb I often wonder what OLD out of date BB they are using?

      • My “Out of Date” BlackBerry is an 8830 running OS 4.5. It perpetually stays in the 3MB-5MB range for available memory, and all I have running on it are my essential add-on apps (Pocket Informant, Mobipocket, BBSmart Alarms Pro, Viigo, Windows Live Search, and a couple of web shortcuts). All told, even if my device allotted 1MB for each of these apps — and they all are less than 1MB download size — I should still have plenty of available memory. However, due to the persistent memory leak on this model and other similar models, I can never seem to get my available memory to stay above 5MB, and it often dips to zero, requiring a battery pull.

In any event, I wouldn’t call my 8830 an “OLD” or “Out of date” model. But it is plagued by memory issues, to be sure. So 600K… no thanks!

Hooray! Another great app that’s completely useless if you’re in the UK. Why can they make the app so you can choose which version of Amazon you want to access?

Very nice app. As good as the PC version.

  6. OK and now for the obvious question: is this running over BIS so it’s not costing me anything to surf their catalogues?
