Rumor: GSM Codename Alphabet Soup Leaked – Onyx, Driftwood, & Magnum

Don't Tell I am not much of a codename lover myself but the trusty BoyGenius has scored some interesting details about 3 upcoming GSM BlackBerrys that have come up on the radar. All three are not all that much different from each other with the only main differentiation being UMA and screen size details. Keep in mind the Magnum already showed up in a previous leak as a HSPA version of the 8900 Curve slated for sometime around WES.

So far Onyx, Driftwood, & Magnum supposedly have:

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS device
  • GPS
  • Camera
  • QWERTY keyboard

Onyx & Magnum supposedly adds Wi-Fi without UMA and a 480×360 screen while the Driftwood has UMA support but no screen size details. Maybe one of the Onyx or Magnum adds a touch screen but no word on that. All of these seem to be 9000 series devices so hopefully we will be seeing them in the next year or so.

As I said this is more for those of you who like to spout codenames since there is not much in terms of details here. On the other hand rumors are fun since they make you hope for bigger and better things! :)

Driftwood sounds like a dumb name, but looks like my next T-Mo BlackBerry will be… The Driftwood

    • Or better yet how about calling it Castaway… :)

Or make a big Ad campaign with ABC/Disney and call it the LOST BlackBerry. If you know the show and all the “whoooa” that happened in Season 3 with the island moving, it’s a pretty impressive name.
