Verizon 8830 customer here. As long as you do light web surfing and don't overdo it (P2P, big ftp, etc.), then I ain't thinking they are coming after you. Still, I'll keep an eye on it and see if it pisses them off.

Just don't abuse it folks and it should be ok.

I copied the following text from Verizon's Terms of Service Agreement.

"The Unlimited plans cannot be used: (1) for any applications that tether the device to laptops, PCs, or other equipment for any purpose,...We reserve the right to deny or terminate service, without notice, to anyone who uses the Unlimited plan in any manner prohibited above or whose usage adversely impacts our network or service levels. We also reserve the right to terminate service upon expiration of Customer Agreement term."

Just to get it out of the way, I do not work in the wireless business and would love to see carriers loosen absurd restrictions on features that their customers have already paid for like GPS, WiFi, MMS and Tethering. I believe that tetherberry is a great app and would buy it if I was comfortable that I would not receive penalties from Verizon. Does the expiration of Customer Agreement term mean the end of the billing period or end of contract? I wish they would be clearer as for possible fees associated.

I have an 8830 WE through Sprint (which I am dying to replace with a next-gen device...whenever they release one), and I use Sprint SmartView for my tethering needs. The BlackBerry data plan I have (I assume this is for current plans too) includes free tethering (which I did not get with Verizon). I use it quite frequently (10+ times per month), and most connections are 10-15MB each. Sprint has software called SmartView that handles the connection (although it will hijack your WiFi adapters too), and I'm running it on Windows 7 x64 with no problems....just in case anyone out there still uses Sprint besides me.

No kidding. I expect to soon be reader reports all over the forums about users getting either huge data overage fees or getting dropped. No way the carriers are gonna let something like this slip through their fee generating tethering plans.

If you get "caught" by AT+T, would you be asked to pay the thethering data fees? Does this work with corporate VPN?

I used to be able to Tether for free on my blackberry on TELUS, but since Februray 25, they are monitoring the tethering they were offering...and it now costs 8$/MB.
Thanks, but no thanks.

So TetherBerry IS a solution to this problem using a one time fee... Unless you have a better way for me to Tether without them noticing ??

I made a point of saying that it does not offer anything you could not get free... I just consider it a solution for all the people who could not get it to work themselves...

$39.99 for an "introductory" rate! What will this me normally? $69.99? Do they realize that you can tether a blackberry for free with a bit of manual configuration, and this app just makes the process more convenient? I was expecting to pay $20 full price. The app works great in Beta, but you can forget me ever paying anything more than $20 for this.

Works fine on a Mac. You can just download the modem drivers (http://www.fibble.org/archives/2007/10/updated-modem-s.html) and pair your BlackBerry. (with a dataplan)

If your provider doesn't support high speed access, you just switch your BlackBerry to GPRS only. Done.
