Developer: ShortCovers Cost: Free

NOTE: I have not managed to get Shortcovers to actually let me read a book yet but I am hoping one of you can…

I am a bit perplexed about Shortcovers. They have a BlackBerry application for the Storm, Bold, & Curve that lets you read books on the go. I read about a book a week on my BlackBerry using Mobipocket so I was excited when I heard about it. The interface looks great the application looks promising but it just does not work. Every time I open a book I get a blank screen. Hopefully that will be fixed soon. On the other hand they are competing with Mobipocket which works like a charm and is also free

If Mobipocket is not working for you it might be worth checking out Shortcovers. Let me know if you can get it to work… You can email yourself the download links for Shortcovers for BlackBerry at this link but I included them below.

I don’t need more information about content rights and restrictions. I already know all that I need to know: that an illegal Peer-to-Peer service will never cause me that kind of inconvenience. In fact, Peer-to-Peer services never pose any inconvenience at all. But there’s always a catch with the legitimate distributors, if not two or three. Obviously, actually selling the damn product to people interested in buying it is not in their list of priorities.

Will these stupid content owners ever learn? I am not betting a single penny on that. It’s been more than a decade since Napster came along, and they never seem to learn.
