8830 OS (Maybe) Officially Available From RIM

8830 users have been left out in the cold recently with updates especially official updates. Mcky over at PinStack found that if he used RIM’s web upgrade service it upgraded his device to OS Not sure if this will work for everybody but it is definitely worth a shot. Let us know what you find in the new OS versions in the comments below.

NOTE: This only works from Internet Explorer on a Windows PC. No luck on my Mac.

Thanks DavidB for the tip!

  1. I just tried with my Verizon 8830 running 4.2 and there were no updates available through the above website nor the Verizon website :(

Not too worried about it. Thinking about getting a Curve next month for my new every 2.

  2. Searching for BlackBerry OS releases for:
    Device: 8830
    Network: All
    Region: All

Downloading carrier list from BlackBerryFAQ… done.

Parsing carrier list for links… done.

    Checking Bell Mobility Inc….

  3. why did I start this upgrade at 12:40 AM ?!?!

  4. As I’m on a BES, no upgrade for me :(

  5. 8830 owner…did not work for me.. asking the same question:why am I starting this so late. going to try the bell update now…

  6. My VZW 8830 is running .127 Bell and I got a no updates available.

  7. Didn’t work with my 8830 on Telus network

I am pretty sure the application reads what carrier your with and looks to see if that carrier has an official update.. which Telus does not (damn now I wish I was with bell)

  8. Alltel 8830. Desktop Manager says I have an update available… then tells me I don’t…

    Bell .127

  9. All you guys running 4.2 that aren’t offered an upgrade via this tool, get thee to and download the official 4.5 release from Sprint for 8830. Install it on you PC, delete the vendor.xml, and using loader.exe (same dir as vendor.xml) do the upgrade. 4.5 is SO worth it from 4.2 even if its not an official Telus or Verizon release its too good not to do it!
