Trapster v3 Released – Free Speed Trap Sharing System

trapster Dayphx let me know that Trapster has been updated to a new version 3. We have mentioned Trapster a few times in the past as a free speed trap sharing application for the Blackberry. This recent upgrade brings a few improvements as detailed below:

  • Signup for account from within app (tell your friends to go to www.trapster.com/m, they can get started right from their phone)
  • Improved (easier) trap entry
  • Thumb up/down icons for rating traps entered by others
  • Touch screen support for Verizon Storm and others (but “alerts too quiet” issue persists with Storm until Verizon releases new OS/firmware, we can’t fix this)
  • Various bug fixes

From the description:

The small blue dot follows your GPS location in real time. The blue circle shows your alert radius. As you approach reported trap locations and one or more of the traps come within that blue circle, TrapsterĀ® begins playing audio alerts such as “Live Police” or “Red Light Camera”, and animating the associated icons. Of course, as with everything TrapsterĀ®, you can report new traps and rate the traps that other users have reported.

You can pick up the latest Trapster version by heading to www.trapster.com from your BlackBerry. If that does not work try directly downloading from the OTA install link at:
www.trapster.com/tm3/tm.jad
Or from your desktop at:

  1. Ok, you knew this was coming… does this version work with Verizon devices that have crippled internal GPS? ie my 8330 Curve? :|

  2. The OTA link doesn’t work – the “Or” from the next line somehow became part of the link.

  3. Haven’t had chance to try on my 8830, bit it DOES get a true GPS fix on my 9530.

  4. On my Verizon 8130 (internal GPS) it seems to “search for location” forever.

  5. Unable to get a GPS fix on my 8830. Since Verizon only enabled the GPS for Blackberry Maps (and no other apps) on the 8×30 devices, I’m not surprised.

I’m really impressed with this app. It works great on my 8130 in Canada.I know where the cops park, so I open it and there just around the corner from my house it showed one of the traps!
    Now that’s COOL!!!
