Bank Of America Homescreen Shortcut Now Marginally More Useful

storm_front_horizontal Wade let me know that Bank Of America has just released a new homescreen shortcut for their mobile banking site. Compared to a regular shortcut there is not much different other than the fact that it adds GPS support. This lets you easily find a bank branch near you. Pretty cool concept but I will stick with doing a quick search on Google Maps since that way I do not have to wait for a GPS lock.

You can read more about the new homescreen shortcut at this link or download it OTA at this link.

I have the 8320 (wifi but no GPS) so I tried the locate bank feature. Google Maps can approximate my location, so I wondered could this? Nope! In fact it lockup the app. I got the following “Please check your device’s GPS or WiFi location settings” which seems to indicate GPS is not a sole requirement. Regardless the app is now frozen and I must take out my battery.

Just as a precaution, make sure your browser emulation is on Blackberry or the OTA won’t work.
