Saxon Innovations Claims RIM Infringes On Two Patents… Trying To Bar Imports Into The US
Sorry guys I know you are probably as bored as me when it comes to patents and RIM. Turns out that RIM and quite a few other cell phone companies are yet again getting into the patent mess with a new contender. Saxon Innovations based out of Texas has put in a claim trying to bar RIM along with Palm and Nokia from importing cellphones into the US due to patent violations. These are based on three patents that Saxon bought from AMD in 2007.
According to InfoWorld these patents are:
- A keypad monitor patent was granted in August 1993
- Interrupt marks patent was granted in June 1996
- Mailbox patent was granted in March 1997
They claim the 8100 from RIM violates two of these patents that I cannot understand. So once again we have a patent troll trying to claim violations on concepts they did not even develop. I wonder what they will think of next.
You can catch more details at InfoWorld and some colorful commentary on Slashdot
