Ever since this outage I've been having data problems here in Baltimore. I get 1x and 1xevdo for at least an hour a day. In store vzw reps are idiots and customer service is a joke when they don't understand what you're saying and do not speak English. Full power down and battery pulls temp fix but what's the point in paying this ASStronomical bill when it seldom works and is often unreliable at best.

SMS would if phone service is still up. SMS uses a CDMA control channel, not EV-DO data.

It is over for the time being. It was caused by a cut fiber link in Boston. It has since been routed around while repairs take place.

I spoke too soon -- I rebooted my 8830, and all data services appear to have returned to normal.

FYI, while things were down, the homescreen displayed "1x" instead of "1XEV". Affected services included BIS, BES, web browsing [all phones, not just BlackBerry], picture messaging [all phones], Mobile Web, tethering, etc. -- SMS still worked as normal.

Here in the North Eastern part of Alabama I did notice my EVDO disappear for a little bit while driving through a rural area, but no data outages.

Appears to be up and down... I drove from Upstate NY to Baltimore today, and I lost data services somewhere northeast of Philadelphia -- data services came back for a short period of time (minutes), and now they are back down here in Baltimore.
