If your memory card wants to be formatted or can't format in 80% of all cases the controller of your card is damaged and no software or card reader can help. You must separate the memory chip and dump the raw data to recover your data, look here: CF xD SD MMC memory card/stick photo recovery

Thank you for your help. I had the same problem with my new BlackBerry Curve. It’s not even 24 hrs old yet, and I came across that message a couple of times before I even connected it to the computer. I didn’t realize what happened until a couple of hours ago. I am extremely upset because all of my pictures that I had saved on my SD from the past year were gone. ZAR was able to recover some of them. Unfortunately, it didn’t recover the ones I really need. My cat died last summer, and my dog just died three weeks ago (both of natural causes). A couple of my favorite pics of them were on my card, and I haven’t been able to recover them. I really wish the program could have saved just those couple of images, instead of the 55 other useless images in comparison.

You could use SanDisk Recovery Tool that comes with all good cards from them. It is a fantastic application made by the ones that should: the factory. I don’t believe there is anything better. And the mass of applications for recovery on the net, it is true that don’t do their job.
