Google Sync 0.5.13 Released – Adds Google Calendar Alerts Sync

Capture14_13_16Not much in terms of details here but I just wanted to let you all know that Google has updated the Google Sync application. It now syncs alarms/calendar alerts along with your contacts and calendar. Not sure if it fixes some of the contact sync issues people were having but it just might.

Check it out at m.google.com/sync from your berry or from your PC at this link

Thanks Raptor464 for sending this one in!

As a reminder the features are:

Synchronize the built-in calendar and address book on your BlackBerry® with your Google account.

  • Get your Google Calendar events to your device
  • Synchronize your Gmail contacts
  • Be alerted for upcoming appointments with sound and vibration using your BlackBerry’s native calendar

Synchronize your contacts. Get your Gmail contacts quickly and easily to your BlackBerry smartphone. With Sync, you can have access to your address book at any time and place that you need it.

Get calendar alerts. Using your BlackBerry smartphone’s native calendar, you can now access your Google calendar even when you don’t have network coverage, and be alerted for upcoming appointments with sound or vibration. It automatically runs in the background, so you can attend to other tasks and still be reminded of your appointments.

Always in sync. Your calendar and contacts stay synchronized whether you access it from your computer or your phone. You can add or edit contacts or calendar entries right on your BlackBerry smartphone or on your Google account on the web. Synchronize one or many calendars at the same time.

  1. As bad as the previous version crashed my Curve, I think I’ll wait for more feedback on this one before I try again. Thanks for the update!

  2. I have to admit, my life is in google’s hands and I have been dying to find something for any of my phones/pda’s that can sync up my google contacts with them without having to go through outlook or somewhere else first.

I found this and must say that I’m quite happy with it! It gave me all of my contacts in just a few minutes.

The only problems I have are:

    1. If you have a contact that has more than 1 number of the same location (as in two mobile or two work numbers), for some reason it will only import the first number. I had a contact that had two mobile phones set (my mistake as I set one to mobile instead of work). Google sync only imported the first mobile number and their home number. Not the mislabled work number.

    2. The contact sync isn’t perfect. In google, I had one person that was split into two seperate contacts (apparently a mistake from when I imported from Yahoo into Google). So in google, I deleted one and then synced it with my blackberry storm. For some reason, I still have the two contacts on my storm. Had to manually delete them. Not sure why though.

    3. Calendar only syncs up to 24 weeks ahead instead of the entire calendar. I would like the full 52 weeks.

Now I would love to be able to edit my contacts on my storm and then export them to google, but I know that’s a little more difficult. Especially since the storm has a lot more in the contacts information section than google does. But I would still love to see it.

All in all, I’m very happy!

  3. I have tried this app twice. The concept of the app is great. Problem is it has created mutiple contacts for certain contacts and erased phone numbers for others. Put numerous numbers down for a contact. One contact I had the same number 15 times. I wish they could fix this because I really like the idea.

  4. I have been using it flawlessly since it came out. no problems and it works everytime!

Don’t expect things from it that aren’t supported. It won’t sync items that are not created in the BB or Google calendar etc.

  5. Well Gary you are luck then. I have changed this on google itself and for whatever reason they didn’t sync properly so consider yourself lucky.

  6. If they fix all of this I will be happy as well. I am not a big fan of having to use outlook. Why, ohh why can’t RIM develop a desktop mngr that has a calendar and contact mngr available. Going through my years with TREO’s and having a desktop mngr I do miss that aspect.
