2008 3G CDMA INDUSTRY ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS PRESENTED BY THE CDG IN SAN DIEGO
Annual Awards Recognize Individuals and Companies for Excellence in Deploying Advanced 3G CDMA Networks, Products and Services
SAN DIEGO — November 20, 2008 —
The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) announced the recipients
of the 2008 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Awards, presented at a
reception hosted by the CDG at the 2008 3G CDMA North America Regional
Conference in San Diego. The awards recognize individuals and companies
for excellence in deploying advanced CDMA2000® networks, products and

solutions,” said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG.

This year’s 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Award for Subscriber Technology Innovation was awarded to Research In Motion and Verizon Wireless.
The award is given to the companies that have demonstrated innovative
thinking in terms of services supported and terminal design. Resulting
products take advantage of the inherent benefits and latest
technological developments of 3G CDMA, offering consumers
state-of-the-art terminals in both features and packaging.
Building on the success of the BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition smartphone,
Research In Motion recently unveiled the BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530
smartphone, to be offered by Verizon Wireless. It’s the first
smartphone to feature support for both EV-DO Rev. A and HSPA networks,
giving BlackBerry Storm users seamless access to high-speed EV-DO Rev.
A networks and HSPA networks¾for true mobile broadband global roaming.
The BlackBerry Storm supports dual-band Rev. A networks, single-band
UMTS/HSPA networks, and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.
The awards nomination process was open to the general public through the
CDG Web site. Final selection of the industry award winners was made by
CDG executive members as well as representatives of industry
associations and the trade media community.
CDMA2000 is the most widely deployed 3G technology, with 277 operators in 102
countries and territories serving more than 463 million subscribers.
Counting 2G cdmaOne™ subscribers, there are almost 475 million CDMA
CDMA2000 has become the technology of choice for developed and emerging market
operators, and is deployable in the 450, 700, 800, 1700, 1900, AWS and
2100 MHz bands. More than 2,050 CDMA2000 devices from over 110
suppliers have been introduced to the market, including more than 526
Rel. 0 and 95 Rev. A devices on 105 CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0 and 48 Rev.
