Truphone – Cheap Long Distance Calls – $1 Free Credit

blackberry_devices Truphone just let me know that they have launched a very simple BlackBerry app. The Truphone Anywhere application simply asks whether you want to make a Truphone call whenever an international number is dialed. If you click accept the app first dials the local Truphone server as a local call and then connects you over Voip to your international number.

Just to get you to install the application Truphone is offering $1 of free credit when you sign up. I don’t know if you need to give them your billing information for that but I would check before signing up. Their claim is that Truphone reduces international call costs to as little as $0.06 per minute from 33 countries around the world.

    I have to call Brazil and Germany so I am always looking for better long distance rates. I tried a few BlackBerry apps before such as Pocket8 and Gizmo5. I hoped this one would work better. One thing I can tell you is that it always wants to be running, and my LED is always a solid RED now, which is super annoying. I think I will uninstall it just because of that. With the LED always solid RED it looks like there is always something wrong with my BlackBerry.
