I am not sure how much of a difference this will make on a device with strong cell signal and GPS but you never know.     The same 2.3.1 version I had is offered so either nothing new for Blackberry or it did this already and we didn't know since they rarely post change logs for new versions.     I don't think this article is about an updated app version, but about an update on Google's side with there software/servers.
