Orange UK Also Having Trouble With Bold

Mobile Tech Addicts managed to get their hands on an internal Orange statement vaguely detailing why Orange has suspended shipments of the Bold. Anybody on Orange UK having issues with their Bold?

Internal Orange Statement on the Bold:

“Following reports of software issues with the BlackBerry Bold handset across a variety of mobile operators, Orange has decided to act in the interest of its customers by suspending shipments of the device in the UK. We are currently awaiting feed back from RIM as to when an industry wide fix for these issues will be in place, and expect this suspension to be an interim measure.We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause you.”

Next steps: BlackBerry/RIM are doing everything they can to resolve this issue and will be completing full testing and validation to ensure future handsets do not have any quality issues.  This may take a couple of weeks so it’s up to us to do what’s best for our customers.

I am dying to know what these software issues are??? My Bold is doing quite well on AT&T…

    IMO, it’s the fact the carriers are still running the launch OS or only one version higher, .167 on my Bold on Rogers works great…however, if I was to slap the carrier OS on it (.125) it would be unbearable, so as far as I can tell..the only people having issues are the ones who are following the “rules”, this is pretty noticeable through out all the BB forums out there…RIM never should have launched the device with the broken OS’ they are currently being shipped with and .162 is the only official revision we have seen and this is NOT available to all carriers..only the informed BB addict is going to be installing a diff. carriers OS, therefore leaving the uninformed Bold user to have nothing but issues with their carrier released OS.

    That’s my take on it, for what it’s worth..

    I agree. First, RIM should have shipped a product with a stable, operable OS across all of their carriers’ networks. Secondly, when a new version of OS is available, it should be available across all carriers covering that handset. Case in point is the Curve. Informed AT&T customers are upgrading their OS via other carriers or through “unofficial” betas to get improved functionality from OS 4.2 to 4.5. My feeling is that RIM and the carriers should look at pushing critical OS updates to the hanset or at least pushing a notice to the consumer via handset notifying them of an update available to their OS.

    I’m currently running my Claro bold (4.6.0.126) on the Orange Dominicana network and I have yet to see a hiccup.

    Well I am on Orange Uk with a Bold and got mine at the beginning of September. I’m currently running OS 4.6.0.162.

    My handset resets itself 4-5 times a day of its own accord.
    My other gripe is its inability to stream media. I have not once managed to stream from youtube despite full 3G signal. The only time I managed was through wireless.

    I just hope that Orange are not about to pull the plug completely.

    I know wonder whether its best I take my handset back. Is this problem software based or hardware?

    Well I am on orange uk and have had .92, .125, .147, . 156 and .162 and the later Is like night and day to the shipping version. Although I have the media streaming issue as well. Just about to go to .167 I think.

    Problems on bold :
    1. Battery drain (always)
    2. Memory Slot can not eject out (often)
    3. System memory can not pre load any sample videos and ringtones. However, not an O/S bug. (often)
    4. LCD blinkering (rare)
    5. USB can’t charged (very rare)
    6. Volume button very hard to press or sometime even can’t work (often)

    Lol, a prime example that the OS upgrades are required…Rogers has just gone live with .162 official download and I’m quite certain you’ll see more go official in a bit as well, since Orange pulled theirs this caused RIM to actually move to address it publicly.

    However in Andres case, he got a lemon..

    Can I just confirm something as I’m not sure what I should do.
    Is this just an software problem which should eventually get fixed by os upgrade or is it a hardware issue and should I be going back to orange for a new phone?

    I was assuming eventually a new os would fix the issue but no luck so far as some of us know.

    Sounds to me their is a lot of things at play here, from collecting info from other Orange users…streaming is an Orange issue, the reboots could be device based issues..if you’re looking for a personal opinion on what to do in this case.

    Take the device back…get a new one, upgrade the OS as soon as you get it and test it out, if the streaming issue still exists..I’d be looking at Orange for answers there..if the resets continue as well…you have two choices, wait for OS upgrades cause it’s obvious Orange and RIM know of the issues and are looking to correct it..second option, as much as I hate to say it…look at a different device.
