I have been using MidpSSH for years since it was one of the first SSH clients that supported the BlackBerry and it was free/opensource. With ROVE removing their commercial mobile SSH client from the market MidpSSH is the only option.
Lipstik let me know about a custom build of MidpSSH that she found on the forums that fixes a few of the issues I had with MidpSSH. The modder, Asskick, has made available his own version 1.7.4 beta2 building upon the official 1.7.3 released by Karl (the developer of MidpSSH).
Here is what he added:
- BIS-B support (depends on carrier on which ports you might be able to work, IE on mine they block port 22, but I just changed my sshd port of linux box to a higher port,). When configuring the host, just add
ORT (so it would be IP.OF.SERVER:PORT - WIFI support
- Application is signed in order to gain access to some RIM protected APIs
MidpSSH has not seen an update since March of this year so this is a much appreciated update. Asskick is also working on other updates. The main upgrade I want in MidpSSH is buffered input like the Rove Mobile SSH client used to have. Let him/her know what you think by posting in this thread on BBforums.
So far this custom build is only available OTA at:

Nice work Asskick!

Nice to see people like this project
I’ll keep track of the input on the thread for new features… I have another app that I got cockin’.. a new idea that no one has exploited yet on the blackberry market

I really appreciate this app. I have a few Linux boxes at home and now I can access them from my BlackBerry. Thanks for the effort on this product!

Would be even nicer if Asskick contributed his blackberry changes into the MidpSSH SVN repo on sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/scm/?type=svn&group_id=174816
From here, http://www.xk72.com/midpssh/contact.php, it sounds like the original author can’t maintain it…. Asskick could make a special tag/branch just for the blackberry stuff, and then others can help revise/enhance as well.
Should be able to contact karlvr through sourceforge to get committer access to the SVN repo…
