DreamBerrys do come true.
About a week ago I posted a DreamBerry about a very specific problem. When you get a call from a number that is not in your address book and you add it to your address book it always saves the number as a work number. Maybe this is a carryover from RIM’s corporate only days but its annoying for consumer users.
Turns out that our friend Fabian was listening and created an app to fix this exact annoyance. It adds a new menu option to the call log to “save number as…” and it will ask you if you want to save the number as a work, mobile, or home number. I have not had a chance to try the app out myself but hopefully it will soon also allow you to add a number to an existing contact.
The app is an annoyance fixer which makes the price point of $2.95 pretty reasonable. The app also only takes up 4Kb of ram which is impressive. Now if only RIM would add this to the core OS… I am sure Fabian would be glad to sell the code.

This is sure to be popular! I hope that it is incorporated in to the OS in future releases.

This program is definitely on the right track, however as of now it looks like it is only integrated into the Call Log. I really wish I could utilize this feature from an email message, or BB Messenger message. RIM come on and fix this, it really is ridiculous. I have programs that look for the mobile number only so if my BB saved their cell number as a work number I have to manually go in and cut the number from work and paste into mobile. Huge Pain.

I agree with conedude. Highlight the # > menu >copy > paste. Save the $3.

While I agree that $3 is a bit to pay for free copy/paste functionality, I gave up a pint of Guinness (good thing I did, it would have taken me over =) ) and bought a license just to support the developer. I don’t think Fabian’s going to retire on my contribution but hopefully he’ll keep chugging along and add additional functionality to this thing in the long run. If you think about it, Rexwireless RexConnect is an outstanding app, but you could also make the argument that it’s just glorified copy/paste. That one took a few pints of Guinness. =)
Cheers!

Thanks haephaestus for the support! I will (try to) buy a Guinness from the $1.77 I get out of the $2.95
.
Please keep those DreamBerry Ideas coming; I am glad to program them
. Thanks to everyone who buys this tiny app!

@KLH
I can confirm that this is not fixed in the latest OS 4.6 for the Bold so I am not sure what you are talking about.
