Back in June we mentioned this free service that would automatically backup your SMS messages. Well they had some issues early on, and rather than provide a service that would not work for everyone, they pulled it for their BlackBerry clientele. The guys over there have been working incredibly hard to get this going again. And today, they went live with this great service… again.
If you have never heard of DexRex, I will briefly overview it, but only because I think it is a great service. If you are like me, there are several reasons that you might want to be able to access a copy of your SMS records. I get messages from my fiancee, friends and family(some of whom are no longer around) that are rather special to me. I am required to keep any SMS messages that are work related. And in general, I am a packrat and don’t like to throw things away 🙂
DexRex does all of this for you, automatically. No more selecting an entire text message, copying it, pasting it to an email and archiving it on my computer. Install a simple plugin, and lay back. Whenever you need access to your messages, log in to DexRex.com and you not only have an archive of every message, you can filter them by contact, search them, analyze who you have been talking to the most and so on.
This service is free, and available to anyone who wishes to participate. Just head over to www.dexrex.com/mobile on your mobile device to get started.
DexRex will also archive and manage all of your IM conversations through most if not all of the major Instant Messaging services, if you want them to that is!

Nate, thanks for the writeup! (again :-D) We hope that the revised version of Dexrex for BlackBerry will work for a broader audience, including many of the international users who had some trouble the first time around.
Along with all the backend improvements, this version features a setup wizard to guide you through the process of configuring your account. Also, you can now sign in to http://www.dexrex.com with your phone number (instead of your instant messaging screen name).
We always love to hear from our users, so drop us a line at http://www.dexrex.com/Contact.php!

Ok for single user. Won’t work for corporate/ enterprise users. No security and companies can’t keep their data internally. Doesn’t meet compliance requirements. Maybe next time.

@pb – I’m sorry it doesn’t work on your BlackBerry Bold. As of right now, the Bold is not available in the US, so we have not been able to test it on that device. We’d really appreciate a chance to talk to you, so that we can fix the problem. Please drop us a note at [email protected], and we’ll give it our full attention.

@Jack – this version of Dexrex is meant for consumer use, so it doesn’t include some of the features that corporate/enterprise users may need. Don’t worry, though — we’ve got something in the works 🙂
