BeejiveIM (formerly JiveTalk) 1.1.0 Released
August 19th, 2008 by Ronen Halevy
Some serious updates in this latest release of BeejiveIM. Tom just sent me the feature list and I am impressed! They set up group chat for all the clients other than Gtalk. (Sadly)
Beejive has released BeejiveIM for BlackBerry 1.1.0. This release includes the addition of the following features:
- Group Chat Support for AIM®, Yahoo!®, MSN® / Windows Live, and Jabber.
- Lotus Sametime® support
- Buddy icons displayed in chat conversations
- Various bug fixes, including device lock up while removing Buddy/Sending Email on 4.5 OS
As usual you can pick up the update at http://www.beejive.com/download if you already own a license. Or you can pick up your own copy at this link. Personally I stick with the native clients but Beejive is starting to look sweeter…

At least the native clients are an option for you. AIM cannot be installed on a VZw device.
@Tom: Why is that? I was going to ask about getting AIM on my 8830 but that pretty much closes that door. I’ve got my GTalk but I’d really like AIM. I have the article that shows you how to use Jabber to include other IM client contacts in your GTalk contact list but haven’t tried that solution yet. I think I need to hunker down one night and do it but I would LOVE to have a native AIM client on my BB.
From the mobile.blackberry.com download site: “AOL Instant Messenger for BlackBerry and ICQ for BlackBerry are not compatible with your smartphone and/or supported by your wireless service provider. Please contact your service provider for details.”
Translation: Why allow users to utilize a free service that only uses data (which they already pay for) when we can have them pay additional for an unlimited SMS package in order to use our SMS-based AOL client?
… so you need to ask VZW the question.
