BlackBerry Professional Users Getting The Cold Shoulder

Daraius sent me an email yesterday that really surprised me. Do you remember the BlackBerry Professional Software (BPS) RIM was pushing a bit back? It was supposed to be a light BES for small businesses. Daraius told me that BPS is still languishing on version 4.1.4. That means no HTML emails or attachment downloading.

I would have understood if BPS got updated a bit after BES. BES is a cash cow for RIM and deserves their attention. It is just surprising that even BlackBerry Unite!, which now has HTML email, seems to be getting a higher priority than BPS.

While this may just be a fluke I can totally understand why Daraius and many other BPS users are feeling like second class citizens. They are already two service packs behind compared to BES. As usual this is probably a case of following the money since BES generates more revenue but its worth knowing about RIM’s lackluster support if you were planning on purchasing BPS.

Perhaps it’s a resources thing? You hardly ever hear about BPS, I suspect adoption has been very low. Even Unite! probably has more users, and hence gets more attention (after BES).
