AT&T Now Supports Windows Live Messenger & Yahoo Messenger! No Hacks Necessary

I am not sure if I am the first to notice this but there is a new link on the BlackBerry Help page at mobile.blackberry.com. It now lets you search to see what instant messaging applications are available for your BlackBerry.

wlm2[1] wlm2[2]

Just go to www.blackberry.com/instantmessaging/ from your BlackBerry!

You then click the search button and it will tell you what instant messenger applications supported by your BlackBerry.

Once I resent my service books AT&T is showing: Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, & Yahoo! Messenger!!!

  1. Yeah, its been around for at least 2 weeks now. I use an 8100c pearl and I was clicking the messenger page for fun and there it was….
    I have all 3 installed and yes…you don’t need any hacks now…

I feel sorry for all those who bought other messenger services like beejive or so…:-(

One catch, they drain the battery very fast…

  2. The problem is that WLM tells everyone on your contacts list that you are on a mobile device so if you want it to be indistinguishable from your PC (like I do) we are SOL. I may keep beejive because it looks like you’re on the pc when you are mobile.

  3. Ronan-
Just wanted to tell you about a really cool app I found! Its called superpages mobile. Google it and check it out. Post if if you like it! Let me know what you think…

  4. Fyi – Yahoo! Messenger now shows up in the supported apps via http://www.blackberry.com/instantmessaging/ but I still get the “service not enabled for this handheld” despite resending service books and a reeboot! BB 8310 on AT&T.

  5. Still no go on my AT&T Curve… I get the “Service not enabled for this handheld.” message, same as before when I tried…

  6. AT&T is still not working with Yahoo… I read that we need to have a service book that ATT doesn’t provide…

  7. Well, that sort of makes this whole article bogus, then , doesn’t it?

  8. well the fact that it shows up in our phone and that we are able to download is the worst part about it, because its a tease! You’re excited about it until you click sign in….

  9. WLM looks nice. Kinda reminds me of the blackberry messenger with the difference that you can comunicate with non-blackberry users that are logged in to computer… it even has the options to show your IM’s in the message list, much like the BB Messenger

  10. Hey guys I did not try the yahoo app. I tried the msn app which showed up from the search and it worked so I assumed that yahoo did also. I just don’t even have a yahoo account to test it with. I guess when you assume… :)

  11. been using it on my 8310 on at&t for 2 weeks now its great! so the above whiners read the instructions properly.

ps: i’m running os 4.5.0.42(58) n ron keep up the good work

  12. Mo: are you using MSN or Yahoo?

  13. I just went and talked to ATT customer service, apparently they do not support the yahoo messenger downloaded from the blackberry site…they just support the OZ Messenger from MediaNet. They are saying its not compatible with their phones. Yet Blackberry RIM made sure there is a working version for the blackberrys.

    confusing….

  14. I’m on BES which may have Yahoo! Blocked? WML works just fine.

    Hank, are you on BES?

  15. Yeah. I did the Download also and when I try an Sign in all I get it the Service not enable for this Handset. How is it AT&T says its Now able too use this feature IF I cant even Sign in? I can get MSN working But EVEN after resending my Service Book AND reseting Nothing Seems too Work so I just deleted it. Any suggestions on How to get the App too work for an 8310?

  16. @brischana
i have both rim’s wlm and yahoo messengers on bis. just resend ya service books then option-advanced options-host routing table-then menu click register now. after do a battery pull and go to mobile.blackberry.com and download it should work.

  17. Well, I have a 8310 with ATT. I resent service books, re-registered, battery pull than downloaded yahoo msg. It still would not allow me to log in.

  18. Mo: did you get a separate service book for that? Are you using ATT? No matter what I do it doesnt seem to work :(

  19. I guess I’m keeping my hacked version after all the comments. Thanks for the heads up guys.

  20. The oz messenger is connected to three messaging services. Click on the media net icon on your main menu then scroll down the page, click mail and messaging.then click on mobile Im and a box should pop up asking to download oz instant messaging before u click download check the box that says set application permissions then hit download. Another box should pop up asking about the app permissions, click view. When the next page comes up showing the permissions hit the menu button on your phone and click save. It should automatically start downloading. Once its finished downloading, turn your phone off, wait a few seconds then turn it back on. If you look on your phone menu there should be a new icon with two people standing side by side click on it and you are good to go. If you already downloaded that other yahoo messenger that was telling you that the service is not enabled, go ahead and delete it, you only need the oz messaging. If u still have problems email me at [email protected]

  22. I have att and just got the yahoo messenger put on the phone I was also getting the “not enabled for this handheld” and all I did was call and tell them that and they walked me through how to get it on. :) it works perfectly now. But FYI it uses text and not data so I would reccomend the unlimited text plan

  23. Thanks for everyone's comments…I'll just keep using BeeJive
