Verizon Wants to Teach You How To Use A Smartphone

Verizon8830I just read this interesting article on Gigaom. Turns out that Verizon is starting to offer classes on how to use a smartphone. This actually makes sense. Carriers are pushing more and more value added services while some of their users are still figuring out what a text message is. Their first round of classes are beginning in New York City. I need to try to convince my wife to go. She has been driving me insane with her Pearl.

They plan on teaching you the basic features and functions of your device and how to run up a tab with all the extra addons such as picture messaging and music downloading. They will probably also spend some time explaining to you why you want a smartphone. I guess that as smartphones are getting smarter the learning curve is getting bigger. Its nice to see Verizon trying to lower that curve.

Should be interesting to see how this pilot goes. I may recommend it to the next newbie who asks. On the other hand this could just be one big sales pitch. (remember timeshares?)
