Zagat.mobi – Find Out Where You Should Go

We have mentioned the Zagat To Go application previously and in our review we found ourselves underwhelmed to say the least. It turns out that Zagat also has a mobile version of their site that actually works quite well. Ironically it is actually faster than the BlackBerry application!

It somehow figures out the city you are located at through your IP address or something. You can then browse and search to see what is happening near you. It is actually sort of integrated with the Buzzd service we mentioned yesterday.

You can login with your Zagat.com account if you have one to see their reviews but even without an account I found the site as useful as the desktop version.

Ronen, I don’t think it can detect your location based on IP since all Blackberry users are “cloaked” with Canadian IP numbers. I opened the site and it had New York selected by default. You live in NYC. Maybe you saw NYC selected and assumed there was some detection going on.

  2. I wondered how they knew that. I didnt even think that they just defaulted to New York. :)

  3. You’re 0 for 2. There is no connection with BuzzD either. Zagat Buzz is the name of Zagat’s city blogs: http://www.zagat.com/buzz.

  4. You’re 0 for 2. There is no connection between ZAGAT.mobi and BuzzD. Zagat Buzz is the name of Zagat’s city blogs: http://www.zagat.com/buzz. These blogs are now available on the mobile site as well.

  5. Thanks for the info Dan. I know Zagat and Buzzd have a contract so I assumed they were connected. I guess assumption is the mother of all…. :)
