Hi, Nikolaus. I used to have MétrO in my Palm, it is a very good application. It has no maps, but you don't need them. The directions are very clear. Their database for São Paulo, Brazil, is not very thorough, but it's quite accurate. There is a Web-based implementation that you can test for yourself. It's a whole different user interface, but the databases and directions are the same: http://i-metro.mobi

Sadly I don't live in a City with a Subway. Can anyone write how Google Maps 2.2 that now includes Public Transit info compares to this, or other apps with Subway directions? Google Maps provides good Bus and Light-rail info for me, but I haven't tried it in a Manhattan like environment.
