MobileMe; Apples New .Mac Email, Exchange and More

Today, Apple released official details of the replacement for their floundering .Mac (DotMac) email and web tool service. Called MobileMe, it is basically ‘Exchange for the rest of us’ (Quoted from their neat little intro video).

Now as a .Mac member, I was concerned with how this was going to affect my life with most of the worry with the question, “Do I have to change my email address ?” The final answer to this seems to be a resounding ‘No’. Cool…

The next question is, “How integrated is this new service to my BlackBerry ?”. MobileMe doesn’t offer too much we have not seen before, especially as BlackBerry owners. Across the board syncing of Email, Calender and Contacts between your devices is what Apple is aiming at with this new service. As well as Gallery (Photo and Video uploading), iDisk (Data storage), 20GB of storage space and an array of other web tool this might not be as bad as I expected (I’m always a pessimist when it comes to change :) ). The price of the old .Mac package was around $99 USD per year but as of yet have not seen the new pricing.

Now I guess you are all asking, how does it all work with BlackBerry. Well, I don’t know yet as it doesn’t get up and running until the start of July… I will keep you all posted… (the existing .Mac works fine with my Curve)

Are you sure that MobileMe Gallery allows for video uploads? I couldn’t find that on Apple’s web site…

    Hi Glenn,
I should have clarified it a bit. You can use iDisk as a video share/storage file with MobileMe (also with .Mac)
    Thanks,
