Pre-Paid Solution for BIS in Indonesia.

At last ! Let’ hope this type of solution spreads for here. A Pre-Paid BlackBerry data package would open the device up to even more users. No more stuffing around trying to get your BlackBerry enabled for global roaming when you go overseas. (Not to mention any nasty surprise data roaming bills when you get back home). Simple purchase your pre-paid package, send through your sms and your away. This type of service would also be great for young people (well, younger than me anyway, and that’s just about everybody 🙂 ) and people on a limited income that could not afford a full BIS data package.

Jakarta, Indonesia –Telkomsel and Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the availability of a new prepaid option for BlackBerry® Internet Service in Indonesia. The new offering from Telkomsel allows customers to activate BlackBerry Internet Service easily and conveniently via short messaging service (SMS) and their service is automatically disabled if there is insufficient credit in their account.

“In line with Telkomsel’s strategy to provide users with quality and timely services, we are proud to partner with RIM to deliver BlackBerry Internet Service with a prepaid option to our customers,” said Hendri Mulya Sjam, Vice President Marketing and Corporate Relationship Management, Telkomsel. “By leveraging our relationship with RIM and our industry experience in the Indonesian market, we can now offer an alternative to enable more business professionals to easily increase efficiency with wireless access to email, phone, organizer and browser functions, as well as other mobile applications, on BlackBerry smartphones.”

“We have enjoyed a very productive relationship with Telkomsel, and we look forward to expanding our presence in the market with this new prepaid service,” said Norm Lo, Vice President, Asia Pacific at Research In Motion. “The BlackBerry solution is a proven, best-in-class mobility tool that is popular around the world, and we are pleased to be working with Telkomsel to bring the many benefits of the BlackBerry solution to an even wider audience in Indonesia.”
