S4BB Releases U.S. Army Survival Guide for BlackBerry
June 6th, 2008 by Ronen Halevy
Another BlackBerry first. S4BB is selling the U.S. Army Survival Guide as a MobiPocket ebook for $29.99 in the Store.
Personally I always thought the survival guide was free. I am not sure which version S4BB has published but older version can be found for free at this link:

If you have to have it on your BlackBerry and find yourself lost in the wilderness with a solar powered charger and your trusty berry…
It might just easily be worth $29.99 to have the guide on you always.

I just don’t get it. So this company is selling a file you can download for free and people are actually paying for that? 30$, c’mon!?
I visited their website and couldn’t find the army handbook just some programs I don’t really get. But when you click to buy an item you will be forwarded to mobilesoftmarket.com who again seem to be selling exclusively s4bb’s stuff.
Like there’s this ebook, the CIA factbook which also can be downloaded from the web for free.
I’d be careful with buying there. Everything’s just too cheesy.

Andre thanks for the explaination. Thats the reason I also mentioned that to the best of my knowledge they are selling a free book…

Alice in Wonderland or the entire collection of Shakespeare can also be found either for free or for a fee. You’re charged for the very specific format in many cases. Maybe you can find this Army Survival Guide for free in other formats. But can you find it for free as a MobiPocket ebook anywhere? Probably not. You pay to have it in that one format.
.
That’s probably why a book reader that will support .txt or .html or PDF is nowhere to be found. Too many titles would be readily available for free. Those who fund the making of book reader applications don’t want that. That is the job of free software initiatives, but free software initiatives and the Blackberry platform don’t seem to click.

Which link is dead? I tried both…
Completely agree Luc. I just always read on my BlackBerry while on my personal throne…
