RANT! What Happened To RIM’s Picasa BlackBerry Application?
June 4th, 2008 by Ronen Halevy
Recently I was using Picasa and had a bit of a flashback. During CES back in January RIM demoed a fully working copy of a Picasa Web Albums application for BlackBerry. I had it in my hand and it worked like a charm.
So I have to ask… What the hell is taking so long?
Why develop a completely working application and then hold on to it for months. I was sure it was going to come out at least by WES but this is starting to get ridiculous.
RIM still has their Picasa page up on their website but even the screenshot there shows a picture from December 16th 2007!!!

Yes I also remember this. What gives? Maybe they realized they don’t want to make free SW anymore, which will lessen the appeal of the BlackBerry. Maybe that’s also why I don’t have access to OS 4.3 or 4.5 for my 8230 yet.

I think they must have worked a deal with Fickr first. The Flickr for Blackberry application came out a short time ago - maybe Blackberry is giving them some sort of headstart? Flickr probably negotiated a better deal than Picasa…
