Phones are often chosen a long time ahead, and need to be compatible with the software. That's why the 8703 is being used. Later, they will be using the 88xx series. The previous laptops were ruggedized units, which is why they weighed so much. The techs love carrying the BB up a pole instead. I worked on this project for the past year and a half.
