Another piece of news I really want to post today so maybe you can give it a try during the weekend. Gizmo5, a notorious VoIP-slash-chat application, sent me an e-mail today with the following announcement:
Gizmo5 now connects to every major IM network in the world:
Gizmo5, MSN, Yahoo, AIM, MySpace, Jabber (including Google Talk), QQ, iChat, ICQ and Gadu Gadu…
Yes, that means you can now connect to 10 networks with 1 application!
That’s a lot of chatting. In any case, we know what that means: more fierce competition. The life of an instant messaging application developer is not easy with so many options for people to choose from.
Be warned, though, that Gizmo5 is likely not to work with your BIS connection if BIS is all that you have. Apparently, they’ve had a very, very hard time getting it to work with BIS as you can check for yourself in their forum. I’ve had that problem since October 2007. In February this year, they announced a new experimental version that is supposed to work with BIS. You can get it and try for yourself over here. Some people say it is working fine – with BIS. Others say it isn’t. I just tried that version and it doesn’t work for me, so I have absolutely no idea if this program is good or not. I can’t even get far enough to test its interface.
Let’s not forget the main point, though. If Gizmo5 works for you, you can count on yet another instant messaging program.
