Version 2.1.0 Of Google Maps For BlackBerry Now Available

Googlemapsversion201One of our readers, Nikolaus, just let me know that there is a new version of Google Maps for BlackBerry available. This is an upgrade from the previous 2.0.3 to 2.1.0. Once again no changelog is provided by Google and no mention in the discussion forums so cross your fingers…

You can pick it up by pointing your BlackBerry browser to:

BTW you can click here to fill out a survey and let Google know what you think of Google Maps for BlackBerry.

  1. Here are the only changes I have noticed. 1) When I start up Google Maps now I always get an initialization screen, but only briefly. 2) Overall seems more responsive then before, but I have no evidence of that. 3) GSM based MyLocation seems to be more accurate, but again that is just my impression.

  2. Yeah, I found this last night…

It’s funny, because the Google Mobile Suite (which includes the Google Mobile Updater) claimed that there was no updated version available, yet I could manually download a newer version (the above version) from!

So much for the Google Mobile Updater keeping my Google applications up-to-date…

  3. I would love to let google know what I think, but that link just takes one to the signup page for their “user esperience” studies, with no guarantee you’ll ever get to participate or provide any input.

What I would like is Google work out a deal with Verizon to offer Google Maps in place of VZNavigator, and it be free to the end user and able to access the BB GPS chip. Perhaps ad supported like the recent Viigo updates.

  4. I have also found the Google Mobile Updater doesn’t notify me when there have been previous updates. Manually I can get a newer version, but Updater doesn’t see it for some reason. What’s up with that?

  5. I just now ran Google Mobile Updater and it offers to install version 2.0.0. WTFO Google??? Here I thought MS was wankers for how there are/are not allowing download of WinXP SP3!

  6. Yeah the mobile updater is a piece of crap… Just another 300K you dont need to waste

  7. Mobile updater worked for me the night of May 16th, 2008. Very often companies will wait to release the auto update to avoid bandwith and server resource so the manual downloader have first dibs and then update the auto update features they have in place. I just noticed playing with my BB 8307e that the updater had the arrow on the box indicating an update was available and boom it was there. Goodnight all.

  8. The new G Maps was supposed to offer a routing option for public transportation. It would give you the nearest bus route to get to a subway/train station and which lines to take to drop you the closest to your destination.
