One feature I've always wanted to have in my Blackberry is the ability to “speed dial” a Web site. GoogHelper is a sort of hard wired search assistant, so it won't adapt to just about any site like a “speed dial” feature would, but it does help search things faster in a given set of pre-configured (hard wired) Web sites. GoogHelper is een soort van hard wired zoeken assistent, dus het zal niet aan te passen aan vrijwel elke website als een "speed dial"-functie zou, maar het doet dingen sneller hulp zoeken in een bepaalde set van vooraf geconfigureerde (hard wired) Web sites. Instead of launching the browser, browsing the bookmarks or history, waiting for Google to open and finally type in your query, you just launch GoogHelper and type in your query. After you type in your query, you must click the button corresponding to the site where you want to run your search. That SMS button is the only slightly obscure thing about GoogHelper though. Dat SMS-knop is de slechts licht obscuur ding over GoogHelper though. Everything else is too simple and straightforward. Everything else is te simpel en duidelijk. The Mobile button will submit your query to the mobile version of Google. De Mobile knop legt uw zoekopdracht naar de mobiele versie van Google. The Images button will submit your query to the Images section of Google. News , Maps , Groups and Gmail are also related to Google, but GoogHelper will resort to other sites too. De Beelden knop legt uw zoekopdracht om de beelden sectie van Google. Nieuws, Kaarten, Groepen en Gmail zijn ook gerelateerd aan Google, maar GoogHelper zullen overgaan naar andere sites ook. For example, the Books button will submit your query to Amazon, and the Wiki button will submit your query to Wikipedia. Zo zal de Boeken knop legt uw zoekopdracht naar Amazon, en de Wiki-knop zal uw zoekopdracht aan Wikipedia.

As soon as you click the corresponding button, your query is submitted, so your default browser is launched. Zodra u klikt op de desbetreffende knop, uw zoekopdracht wordt ingediend, zodat uw standaard browser wordt gestart. Probably the Blackberry browser. Waarschijnlijk de Blackberry browser. I don't think anyone has ever been able to make Opera Mini or any other browser become the default one. This is pretty much the summary of everything GoogHelper can do. Dit is zo'n beetje de samenvatting van alles GoogHelper kan doen. It's not a lot of things, but the one thing it does is very useful indeed. Het is niet een heleboel dingen, maar een ding doet het heel nuttig is inderdaad.

Now here comes the obligatory complaint section. Nu hier komt de verplichte klacht sectie. There are three things I found disappointing about GoogHelper: Er zijn drie dingen vond ik teleurstellend over GoogHelper:

Imbic has incurred some nasty oversight regarding the format and encoding of queries. Imbic heeft gemaakt een aantal nare toezicht met betrekking tot de vorm en de codering van queries. For example, you can't enclose your query or part of it in quotation marks, a very common search query feature. Zo kunt u niet omsluiten je zoekopdracht of een deel ervan tussen aanhalingstekens, een veel voorkomende zoekopdracht functie. Try googling for berry review then “berry review” (with quotations) and you will see how much difference it makes. Probeer googlen voor bes herziening dan "berry herziening" (met citaten) en je zult zien hoeveel verschil het maakt. GoogHelper doesn't handle that appropriately, so Google returns an error page. GoogHelper doet hier niets aan adequaat, dus Google geeft een foutpagina. Quotations are forbidden as a result. Citaten zijn verboden als gevolg. There is a similar problem with Wikipedia. Er is een soortgelijk probleem met Wikipedia. Look for Oscar Wilde or “Oscar Wilde” in Wikipedia with GoogHelper and you will get an error page that will force you to click a link and run another search or maybe even type your query in all over again. Zoek naar Oscar Wilde of "Oscar Wilde" in Wikipedia met GoogHelper en je krijgt een foutmelding pagina die u dwingen om op een link en een andere zoekopdracht uitvoeren of misschien zelfs Typ uw zoekopdracht in alle weer. Wikipedia expects Oscar_Wilde , with underscores instead of spaces. Wikipedia verwacht Oscar_Wilde, met underscores in plaats van spaties. Look for Oscar_Wilde in Wikipedia with GoogHelper and you will land perfectly into the expected page. Zoek naar Oscar_Wilde in Wikipedia met GoogHelper en u zult perfect land in de verwachte pagina.

That really ticked me off. Dat was echt aangekruist mij af. How amateurish can you be? Hoe amateuristisch kan je zijn? If we know that Wikipedia behaves like that, why not replace those spaces automatically before submitting the query? Als we weten dat Wikipedia zich gedraagt als dat, waarom niet ter vervanging van die ruimten automatisch vóór het indienen van de query? Six years ago, when I was taking my first baby steps in script programming, I made a programatically-driven tool that ran searches in Google in a very similar fashion to that of GoogHelper. Zes jaar geleden, toen ik mijn eerste stappen in baby programmeren van scripts nam, maakte ik een programatically-aangedreven werktuig dat liep zoekopdrachten in Google in een zeer gelijkaardige manier aan die van GoogHelper. I was totally wet behind the ears, but I immediately took notice of that problem so my humble little tool took good care of that already. Ik was helemaal nat achter de oren, maar ik maakte meteen kennis van dat probleem dus mijn nederige klein hulpmiddel heeft een goede verzorging van dat reeds. What is the matter with these developers? Wat is er met deze ontwikkelaars? Do they not use Google? Hebben zij geen gebruik maken van Google? Are they not familiar with the ubiquitous quotation feature? Zijn ze niet vertrouwd zijn met de alomtegenwoordige offerte functie? Did they ever test GoogHelper on Wikipedia and try to figure out why the queries didn't quite work as expected? Hebben ze ooit test GoogHelper op Wikipedia en probeer te achterhalen waarom de vragen niet helemaal werken zoals verwacht?

I ran into another problem, although a much less important one. Ik kwam een ander probleem, maar een veel minder belangrijk. The old version of GoogHelper I had installed had a “Check Updates” feature. De oude versie van GoogHelper ik had geïnstalleerd had een "Check Updates" feature. It was really nasty then because it would freeze my Blackberry so badly I had to pull the battery and reboot. Het was echt smerig toen omdat het mijn BlackBerry zou bevriezen zo slecht moest ik de batterij en reboot trekken. In this newer version of GoogHelper, that feature won't freeze my phone anymore, but it still doesn't work. In deze nieuwere versie van GoogHelper zal deze functie niet bevriezen mijn telefoon meer, maar het nog steeds niet werkt. Just look at the screenshot: Kijk maar naar het screenshot:

Finally, some of the buttons, like Tags , Blogs and PDAhp never seem to return anything useful to me. Ten slotte zijn sommige van de knoppen, zoals Labels, Blogs en PDAhp nooit lijken iets nuttigs terug naar mij. I wish I could just delete them and free up screen space. Ik wou dat ik kon gewoon verwijderen en vrije up scherm ruimte. And I missed other important sites like En ik miste andere belangrijke sites zoals IMDB IMDB (via Google with site:imdb added to the query at the very least) and a couple of dictionaries. (via Google met site: imdb toegevoegd aan de query op zijn minst) en een paar van woordenboeken. I wish I could actually customize the query strings generated by each button and add my own buttons, but then I'm afraid the program would lose simplicity, therefore some of its appeal. Ik wou dat ik kon eigenlijk pas de query strings gegenereerd door elke knop en voeg mijn eigen knoppen, maar dan ben ik bang dat het programma zou verliezen eenvoud, daarom enkele van haar beroep.

Pros: it is useful indeed; you will be able to run search queries faster in most cases. Voordelen: het is handig inderdaad, u zult kunnen zoekopdrachten sneller te lopen in de meeste gevallen.

Cons: bugs in the query strings as they're submitted to the browser; buttons are not configurable. Nadelen: bugs in de query strings als ze voorgelegd aan de browser; knoppen zijn niet worden geconfigureerd.

My rating: 7. Mijn cijfer: 7. The program is useful, but Iambic really has to fix that query string problem. Het programma is nuttig, maar Iambic echt aan die query string probleem op te lossen. It is embarrassing. Het is gênant. As soon as they fix it, I will rate it 9 because the buttons can't be configured. Zodra ze het te repareren, dan zal ik rate it 9, omdat de knoppen niet kan worden geconfigureerd.
