Review: flashlight apps for the Blackberry

flashlight_dark.jpgFlashlight applications have fascinated me for some time. They always seem to be very coveted and disdained at the same time. Or at least that’s the impression I often get from their very low prices and the close to zero enthusiasm they seem to cause in Blackberry forums although people talk about them quite often. It’s easy to guess why there is so little enthusiasm: most people want to use the powerful camera flash as a flashlight, but the Blackberry API does not allow that, it seems. I wonder if that is a bad thing. I always thought that leaving the camera flash lit up continuously for any more than a couple of seconds could seriously damage it. Anyway, it can’t be done yet, but there are flashlight applications for the Blackberry in the online stores, so I decided to skip the prejudice and see what the real deal is with my very own eyes. I chose three applications that seemed to be worthy of a review:

Well, if the Blackberry doesn’t let us use the camera flash as a flashlight, how do these applications work? They all use the screen for that. Mostly, they light up the screen with a plain white background and that’s pretty much it, plus a few extras to make themselves perhaps a little interesting. Stay tuned to the following posts or click the links above to read my evaluation of each one of them.
