Free WeatherBug Direct Application For Blackberry
One of our readers, Bob, reminded me about another free weather application that many people use but we have never mentioned before. It is called WeatherBug Direct and it is available free.
It has some cool features including icon changing with the weather and weather alerts. It can also show you up to 3 days forecast which is not much compared to the other options.
Announcing WeatherBug® Direct for BlackBerry! Get live, local weather from any of our more than 8,000 WeatherBug Tracking Stations around the U.S., plus live temperature and local forecasts — direct to your BlackBerry. Get WeatherBug Direct for BlackBerry today — Free!
Features
- Live, local weather conditions
- Local forecasts
- Live temperature on your home screen
- Severe weather alerts
- Quick link to WeatherBug’s mobile Web site for more details
Installation Instructions
- On your Blackberry, browse to http://blackberry.weatherbug.com/download.
- Click on “Download WeatherBug Direct.”
System Requirements
- Blackberry OS 4.1 and later
- BB Dimension-Icon or BB Insight-Icon theme. The application will update under all themes but the user may experience slightly different alerting functionality. Did you figure out how to change the city/zipcode that the application use? I installed it and it keeps thinking I am in Germantown, MD 20874 (while I am actually in NYC)…
Any idea?

I had the same issue that Ixtab reported. Also being Canadian I want to see degrees C, and it defaults back to F. Plus this is not an app as much as a browser link. I have been using Weather Eye for over a week now, and I’ll stick with that thank you very much.

I wouldn’t recommend this app. I can’t change the default settings so I just visited their support forum and found people with a very similar problem. The really bad thing is that the posts span across several months and nobody from Weatherbug seems to be willing to step up and give some help or clarification. That is a very bad sign.
.
Also, I think my phone is working slower overall since I installed Weatherbug. Maybe it’s because of the animation it puts in the Home screen. But I can’t turn it off. It’’s set to “off” in the configuration already. Another thread in that forum reports that this program will indeed make the Blackberry slower to the point of requiring a couple of battery pulls a day. Once again, no official word from Weatherbug.
.
This really looks bad.

Thanks for the heads up guys. We mention these products not because we think they are the best but because they represent options. There are so many with regard to weather.
BBweather
weathereye
push weather
RSS weather
Journalbar
And more. This was just to put it out there. I have some friends that just bookmark the US government weather page so they can get the doppler images.

I think you guys needed to read the help file. Weather Bug settings are in the main Blackberry “Options” screen. Here, you will find the “WeatherBug Settings” to change the default location and many other cool things. This is a fantastic program very well written and executed, it even has a software update feature built in, this is very well written it even animates the 3 day forcast for you right on your home screen showing high and low projected temps. Great program!

Damian, Weatherbug crashes with Java error messages whenever I try to change those options. It happens to many people. Check the site and their forum.
