QuickPlay Brings XM Radio To BlackBerry
QuickPlay does not seem to have gotten enough traction with the First Video player for BlackBerry so I guess they are moving on to Satellite radio. AT&T has had this feature for quite awhile but the subscription fees were just not worth it for the few minutes I might listen a month.
The nice part about the QuickPlay XM feature is that it is Universal. Meaning that it will work on any carrier. Once again the privilege of XM radio is priced high at $7.99 a month with a free 24–hour trial.
For the $7.99/month price tag you get 20 XM channels including XM’s 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s decade channels, 20on20 (Top 20 Hits), Ethel (New Alternative Rock), The City (Hip-Hop/R&B Hits), XMU (Indie Rock), Watercolors (Easy Jazz) and Highway 16 (New Country Hits). You can also listen to XM comedy channels, The Virus (outrageous uncensored talk) and XM Comedy (uncensored comedy).
You can pick up the trial from www.xmradio.com/bb. I know of at least one other person who had issues downloading it so hopefully it will work. So far it only seems to be available for OS 4.2 devices including the 8100, 8300, 8700, & 8800 series devices.

… and there is no pricing break for current XM subscribers. This appears to be way overpriced given that (1) a current subscriber can add on an additional radio with the full channel lineup for only $6.99 per month (i.e., $1 less than than limited 20 channel BlackBerry offering); and (2) current subscribers can access XM online for no additional charge (IMO, the BlackBerry is just another computer — as a current XM customer, I can see a reasonable one-time licensing fee for the BlackBerry application, but not $8 per month.)
Also, the trial worked rather well on my 8830 yesterday, but this morning I encounter “Starting up…” followed by “Connection failed. Exiting…”.

I liked the interface on this program. But sound quality was as disappointing as the music selection. Why would I pay to listen to those lame stations when I can listen to my favorite MP3 files at no additional cost? The program is well done, but the whole of the proposal is not attractive.

I tried to download this for 2 days now and I keep getting that support for my device is not available and to leave my email address and they will contact me. I have a pearl 8130 with broadband access what is up with that?

I like the service on my BB 8830, but I definitely would not pay an additional $8/mn, especially considering I already pay $13 to have XM in my car. It should be free for existing XM subscribers (or I would even be okay with a one-time charge of $8).
I wonder if uninstalling the app, then putting it back on re-activates the trial?
