Commercial Crossbar Theme For BlackBerry 8100, 8300, & 8800

Bplay just released a new theme that has been wowing quite a few people. I can agree with them since the Crossbar them broke a few boundaries in Plazmic. The idea is that you have a carousel instead of a Zen bar as your homescreen. It has 3 icons by default with 7 that you can choose. Even Cherrichiodo who has quite a few themes under her belt was won over instantly. You can pick it up for $6.99 from Bplay.

Personally I liked the idea of the carousel but I have yet to see it executed properly. This one was satisfactory but I did not like the fact that I had the phone log in the carousel and I could not remove it. I can always get the phone log by pushing the talk button. The icons also left a little to be desired since they are all white. I find that the color helps me differentiate one from the other in most themes. Here you have to hunt based on shape. It also clashes a bit with the 3rd party applications that have different color icons.

As I said the theme is very innovative but I truly cant wait to see what they do with this style next. As I said if you have to have the latest and greatest make a point of picking this theme up at Bplay for $6.99.

Looks a lot like Sony’s PS3/PSP XMB interface. Very cool.

  2. This theme doesnt work with WI-FI blackberries… another theme not tested before being commercially available… the WI-FI icon covers the EDGE and/or UMA icon…

  3. DavidB,
I completely agree I thought I had recognized it from somewhere. It just did not have the sparkly effect like the PSP.

    Raffy,
I completely agree. I think that if a developer is planning on selling his themes he should do due dilligence to ensure they work correctly on all devices. Especially with Wifi becoming more popular.

  4. I downloaded it on my blackberry pearl 8100, it really kicks ass. Everybody I have showed it to is wowed

The Crossbar Theme is no longer available at bPlay. Is there any other site that it can be downloaded from?

  6. Matt nice catch. I will try to investigate the removal of the crossbar theme
