I made the same modification a little while ago. Easiest and safest way is to draw around the camera opening with a fine tip felt pen then remove the Bb and cut the membrane with a scalpel or similar. Don't just cut around the opening using your Bb as a back stop (trust me on this :) )

I just got my OB Defender case for the Pearl 8120/30 today and it is everything they are hyped up to be. Very rugged and tough, but also very accessible at the same time. Have not done the "stair test" yet and probably never will purposefully. I installed with the membrane and did not lose a bit of accessibility, however, the camera has a tough time collecting enough light to create a quality image. I plan to modify the membrane around the camera as to allow a clearer image. But all in all the case is exactly what I expected minus the camera.

I bought a OB case for my 8820 and love it, but I don't care for the screen/keyboard skin. I wish they would make one with a clear plastic window instead of the cutout with the skin.
