8820 Coming To T-Mobile On March 5th?
February 8th, 2008 by Ronen Halevy
The WiFi UMA capabilities of the 8820 may finally be put to use according to a rumor BoyGenius & BBCool reported about. Supposedly T-Mobile will be releasing the 8820 on March 5th. This is not really big news since the 8820 has been available from AT&T for ages now but it will be the first to use UMA. It is sad to see that only T-Mobile is actively pursuing the use of UMA. Other carriers just don’t seem to care. Maybe some hardworking developer can find a way to add SIP phone capabilities to the WiFi BlackBerrys.

I love it when T-Mo expands their BlackBerry and HotSpot@Home (Talk Forever) line up, but why would anyone want the 8820 over the 8320? The 83XX series is smaller, has a better keyboard, better looking (no gold please) and has a good camera. Yes yes, GPS, but frankly with Google My Location (yes not perfect but…) I’d always pick my 8320 over the 8820. I do hear from a friend at RIM that the 8820 has a better processor, but I’ve never seen the specs. Ok you 8820 lovers, bring it on!

Nikolaus I agree. I moved to a curve myself from an 8800. I know some people are stuck with 8800’s for work. Many employers just dont want their employees to have a fun device

No there are none available directly from T-mobile. They are focusing more on the WiFi angle. If you need GPS I would recommend a GPS Bluetooth puck or getting an AT&T 8800 or 8310 unlocked. When the 8820 drops maybe on the 5th it will have GPS
