Magmic Signs Deal To Release Boulder Dash-Rocks! For BlackBerry

Boulder-dash-rocksMagmic has just announced a deal with First Star Software Inc. to bring Boulder Dash-Rocks to BlackBerry. This is another hot platform title that Magmic is bringing to the table. Magmic has been doing an amazing job of turning the BlackBerry into a feasible portable gaming alternative. Personally I am more of a fan of the simpler games but this game promises to be pretty cool. This game has done a pretty good job on the PSP and DS so it is pretty cool to see a port to BlackBerry in the works

Check out the release below:

OTTAWA, February 7, 2008 — Magmic Games Inc., 10TACLE MOBILE GmbH and First Star Software, Inc. have announced a partnership whereby Magmic Games is granted the exclusive worldwide rights to develop and publish a mobile version of “Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!T”. Under the terms of the agreement, Magmic Games and First Star Software will co-publish mobile versions of the title across all mobile platforms, including J2ME, BREW, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and iPhone.

Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!T is a modern remake of the original cult classic “Boulder Dash®.”  The tricky puzzle and dexterity game first made its debut in the early 80s across several personal computer platforms, including Atari, Commodore 64 and DOS.  It is one of the few gaming titles to be ported from a personal computer game to an arcade game, and still enjoys a loyal fan following today.

The hit game’s principle remains: players have to collect sparkling diamonds whilst avoiding numerous traps and beating opponents to reach them, all the while watching out for falling boulders.  The game was released in November, 2007, for the Nintendo DST, with a PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) version to follow in Spring 2008.

This will be the fourth mobile game in the Boulder Dash® franchise, following the original Boulder Dash®-M.E.T; Boulder Dash®-M.E.T2 and Boulder Dash®-Tournaments for PrizesT.

“We are very pleased to be adding one of the classic brands in gaming to our product catalog,” said Nicholas Reichenbach, vice president of publishing for Magmic.  “We look forward to working with FIRST STAR SOFTWARE and 10TACLE MOBILE and its partners on this and future projects.”

“Working on the franchise was an exciting challenge. We are very proud that we could relive the famous brand again and are looking forward to support MAGMIC in their development process”, says Alexandra Gerb, Managing Director for 10TACLE MOBILE.

First Star Software’s president, Richard M. Spitalny commented, “We’re particularly excited about working with Magmic and 10TACLE MOBILE in making Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!T available across the broadest selection of mobile devices ever for a single Boulder Dash® title.”

Magmic Games will make versions of Bolder Dash®-ROCKS!T available for distribution through its roster of carrier partners and will also market the product through its various direct-to-consumer portals.  The game is expected to debut in June, 2008.

  1. That’s cool. I played BD a lot on the ZX Spectrum. Good times.

  2. Luc why couldn’t you get a commodore 64 like everybody else 🙂 Always trying to be the nonconformist

  3. The C64 never made it to Brazil. Surely some people must have imported it, but I never got to actually see one. The Speccy was licensed and manufactured here, but it wasn’t popular. Most geeks preferred the MSX.

  4. Ha! I lived off my C64. I will never admit to being a geek 🙂
