Berry Locator - Find Your Lost BlackBerry With GPS

Berrylocator[1]MobiReport just let me know about their latest software release called Berry Locator. At first I was skeptical just like I am with most of these anti-theft software solutions but I actually found the program extremely useful. On top of that it is reasonably priced at $4.95.

The softwares use is actually quite simple. It installs on your BlackBerry and is constantly running. You setup a keyword that the application will recognize as you trying to find your BlackBerry. For example I used the keyword findmyblackberrynow. The second the application finds this keyword it starts driving your BlackBerry crazy, even if it is in silent mode! The screen blinks from white to black, the LED blinks different colors, the phone vibrates, and it beeps. This is sure to annoy the hell out of some people. The cool part is that the application will also show the body of the email you sent on the screen so you can tell people where to return the BlackBerry and the reward bounty.

The coolest part is that if your BlackBerry has GPS and has GPS reception then it will send you back an email with a Google Map showing where it is. This is not the most elegant solution because GPS will probably not work from inside your couch. Sadly the software does not keep trying to get a GPS location and just gives up after a few minutes.

I can’t wait to try the software in a real situation. I constantly lose my Berry all over my apartment.

Okay, so I sat my Berry down for 3 minutes today and it grew legs and walked away. I bought and downloaded your app, and just (hopefully) deployed it wirelessly from my BES. Of course, I have no way of knowing it worked but I note my Last Contact Time is up to date even though redirection has been disabled.

    Oh, my question…lol
I am wondering if the application installs with a default keyword. (Since I can’t access my BB to configure it.) I am about to reenable redirection and attempt to send with the keyword “findme” from the screenshot on the apps page. Hopefully this worked.
