ColorWare – Pimp Your BlackBerry With A Custom Paint Job

I know this is a bit of old news after we mentioned back in December that ColorWare was going to start doing custom paint jobs for BlackBerry devices. Well it has been a few weeks and ColorWare seems to have setup their website to accept BlackBerry pain jobs. They are currently offering the service for the BlackBerry 8100 Pearl, 8300 Curve, & 8800 series devices. Before you ask it does include the 8830, 8130, 8120, 8110… series devices. I just wish they would allow you to print a graphic on the back of the case.

Check out the hot mockups I have created in their designer.

The interesting twist is that ColorWare is offering two different options for getting the devices. You can either send in your device for $99 OR you can purchase an unlocked version painted for about $50–$100 over retail. That means you can pick up an unlocked 8310 or 8320 for $499…and so on. They even offer a standard free 1year warranty with these unlocked phones and an option to upgrade to a 2year warranty for $149 extra. The only reason I mention it is because this is the first vendor I have ever seen offer such a product.

The options for coloring are downright cool. The base price is $99 for one color throughout the device. You can also choose a different color for the sides, back, and bottom for $15 per addition. You can choose from 15 solid colors and 20 metallic colors.  The two color types are metallic and solid. Metallic colors have tiny flakes within the shade that add a little variation and sparkle to the color. The exact appearance of a metallic color does vary based on the type and angle of light hitting the surface. Solid colors are pure color, with no effects or variation. All colors come in a high-gloss, scratch-resistant finish. The coloring comes with a 30 day full warranty and a 1 year warranty on labor. (not sure what that means )

The are a few downsides to this deal. First of all imagine sending in your BlackBerry in for repair painted like this! Second of all you need to live without your Berry for 3–4 weeks while they paint it.
